Lifting a curtain on food webs

A fly gets a rare drink of water, not discriminating of the source, in the hot and dry summer Sonoran desert. A western diamondbacked rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) is too busy swallowing a freshly killed desert packrat to notice another dinner guest. Fleas (note at least four on the packrat) wait for the last possible moment to jump off their disappearing (and rapidly cooling) host.
